What is a Gas Regulator & Changeover Valve?
Steps the cylinder's high pressure down to a safe, steady flow for your appliances.

Gas leaves the cylinder at a much higher pressure than your hob or heater is designed for. The regulator brings that down to a safe, constant pressure, and — on a two-cylinder setup — a changeover valve automatically switches to the second bottle when the first runs dry.
How it works
A spring-loaded diaphragm inside the regulator constantly adjusts to keep outlet pressure steady regardless of how full the cylinder is or how cold it is outside.
Signs of trouble
- ⚠Weak or yellow (rather than blue) flame on the hob
- ⚠Regulator visibly perished, cracked or older than 10 years — these have a recommended replacement life
- ⚠Appliances cutting out under demand — can point to a struggling regulator
