Why it matters
Gas faults are rare but serious. A proper check catches perished hoses, a tired regulator, or a hob burning with a poor flame before they become dangerous.
How to do it
- Have a Gas Safe-registered engineer (or your habitation service provider) inspect all gas pipework and joints for leaks.
- Check the regulator's age - replace if it's over 10 years old, as most manufacturers recommend.
- Confirm each appliance lights properly and burns with a clean blue flame.
How often
Every 12 months, often bundled into your habitation service.
Rough UK cost
£60 - £150 if done as a standalone check.
