What is a Gas Hob & Grill?

Your cooking ring, running on the same LPG supply as the heater and water heater.

In plain English

A compact 2 or 3-burner hob (sometimes with a small grill or oven beneath) runs directly off the van's gas system, giving you a proper cooked meal without needing a separate camping stove.

How it works

Gas flows from the regulator through copper or push-fit piping to each burner, controlled by an individual tap. Most modern hobs include a flame-failure device (FFD) that cuts the gas automatically if the flame goes out.

Signs of trouble

  • Flame won't stay lit — usually the flame-failure device or a weak spark ignition
  • Yellow, sooty flame instead of blue — a sign of poor combustion, get it checked
  • Smell of gas around the hob when it's off — stop use and check for a leak at the joints
Rough UK cost

£150 – £450 fitted for a replacement hob unit.

Ballpark only — depends on your van, converter and local labour rates.
