Why it matters
Standing water breeds bacteria, especially after storage. Sanitising the tank and pipework keeps your drinking and washing water fresh, particularly after winter lay-up.
How to do it
- Drain the tank fully, then refill with water and a food-safe sanitising solution (widely sold for caravans/motorhomes).
- Run the solution through every tap, the shower, and the toilet flush (where fitted) until it reaches each outlet.
- Leave for the recommended contact time, then drain fully and flush through several times with clean fresh water before drinking.
How often
At the start of the season, and after any period of storage longer than a few weeks.
