What is a Water Pump?

The small electric pump that gives you running water from the taps.

In plain English

Open a tap and this little 12V pump switches on automatically, pushing water from the fresh tank through the pipework to wherever you need it.

How it works

A pressure switch (or a simple micro-switch style pump) senses the drop in pressure when a tap opens and starts the motor. It stops again once the tap is closed and pressure builds back up.

Signs of trouble

  • Pump runs constantly, even with taps shut — usually a leak somewhere in the system
  • No water despite a full tank — check the fuse and the inlet strainer for debris
  • Loud chattering noise — often trapped air, or a failing pump
Rough UK cost

£40 – £150 fitted.

Ballpark only — depends on your van, converter and local labour rates.
