What is a Water Heater (Truma / Whale-style)?
Heats your water using gas, mains electric, or both — for washing up and a proper shower.

In plain English
A compact boiler-style unit (often a Truma or Whale) heats a small tank of water, usually around 10 litres, so you get a hot shower or washing-up water without needing to boil a kettle.
How it works
It can run on gas, on a 230V electric element (when on hook-up), or both together for faster heating. A thermostat keeps the water at a set temperature and a safety valve vents any over-pressure.
Signs of trouble
- ⚠No hot water on gas but fine on electric (or vice versa) — points to one specific supply, not the unit itself
- ⚠Dripping from the pressure relief valve — often normal after heating, but check if it's constant
- ⚠Frost damage after a winter left un-drained — a very common and preventable fault
