What is a Waste Outlet Valve ('Blade Valve')?
The lever under the van that lets grey (or cassette) waste out — in a controlled way, not a puddle.
Simplified animation — not to scale.
In plain English
A flat sliding 'blade' sits inside the outlet pipe from the waste tank. Pull the lever and it slides aside, letting the contents drain out cleanly at a waste disposal point.
How it works
It's a simple mechanical slide valve — no electrics involved. Grit and soap residue are the main enemies, gradually stopping it sealing properly.
Signs of trouble
- ⚠Slow drips even with the valve closed — usually grit in the seal
- ⚠Lever stiff or hard to move — needs a clean and light lubrication
- ⚠Won't seal at all — the blade or seal has likely worn out
Rough UK cost
£30 – £90 fitted.
Ballpark only — depends on your van, converter and local labour rates.
