What is a Rock & Roll Bed / Seat?
Folds flat to become a rear seating bench by day, and flips to a bed at night.
Simplified animation — not to scale.
In plain English
A popular campervan solution: rear seating for daytime travel that folds down (or 'rocks and rolls') into a flat double bed for the night, without needing to remove or store anything separately.
How it works
A folding frame with a locking mechanism lets the seat back drop down level with the base, while the whole unit typically slides on rails to adjust legroom.
Signs of trouble
- ⚠Won't lock securely in either position — treat as unsafe until fixed, especially as a travel seat
- ⚠Stiff or squeaky folding mechanism — usually just needs lubrication
- ⚠Seatbelt anchor points showing wear — these carry real load in a crash and should be inspected properly
Rough UK cost
£200 – £600 fitted, more if seatbelt certification work is needed.
Ballpark only — depends on your van, converter and local labour rates.
