What is a Dinette / Seating-to-Bed Conversion?

Turns your table and bench seats into an extra sleeping area.

Simplified animation — not to scale.

In plain English

Many layouts let the dining table drop down to seat height, with cushions filling the gaps between the bench seats to create a second bed — handy for kids, guests, or simply more sleeping options.

How it works

The table usually mounts on a single sliding or telescopic leg that lowers to seat height; loose infill cushions (stored elsewhere when not needed) complete the bed base.

Signs of trouble

  • Table won't lower or lock at the right height — check the leg mechanism
  • Infill cushions don't sit flush, leaving gaps — reshuffle or replace foam that's compressed with age
  • Table wobbles at height — usually the leg's locking collar needs tightening
Rough UK cost

£100 – £350 fitted for mechanism repairs; cushions cost £80 – £250 to replace.

Ballpark only — depends on your van, converter and local labour rates.
