Comfort & Technology
What is a Cab Infotainment & CarPlay/Android Auto?
The same touchscreen tech as any modern car, in the driving cab.
Simplified animation — not to scale.
In plain English
Most base vehicles built in the last decade include a touchscreen infotainment unit supporting Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, giving you sat-nav, music and calls mirrored from your phone.
How it works
Connected by USB (or wirelessly on newer units), the head unit mirrors a simplified version of your phone's interface, while retaining its own controls for the vehicle's radio and settings.
Signs of trouble
- ⚠Phone won't connect — try a different cable first, especially 'charge-only' cables which won't carry data
- ⚠Screen freezing or restarting — often a software update is needed from the manufacturer
- ⚠No sound through the speakers despite the screen working — check the source/input setting on the head unit
Rough UK cost
Diagnosis and minor fixes typically £50 – £150; full head unit replacement £250 – £700 fitted.
Ballpark only — depends on your van, converter and local labour rates.
