What are Habitation Door & Seals?

Your main way in and out — and one of the biggest places water tries to get in.

In plain English

The habitation door is built lighter than a cab door and relies heavily on its rubber seal to keep the elements out, along with a multi-point lock for security.

How it works

A compression seal runs around the door frame; closing and locking the door squeezes it tight against the body. Over time, sunlight and flexing cause this rubber to harden and lose its seal.

Signs of trouble

  • Daylight visible around the closed door frame
  • Draughts or whistling noise at speed
  • Damp patches on the wall or floor near the door — often a seal issue, worth checking at a habitation service
Rough UK cost

£20 – £60 for a seal replacement; £300 – £900 fitted for a full door replacement.

Ballpark only — depends on your van, converter and local labour rates.
