What it means
Most 3-way fridges show which power source (gas, 12V, mains) they're using, and some flag a fault code if that source isn't actually heating properly. Left unnoticed, food can spoil.
What to do
- Check the power source selected matches what's actually available (e.g. not set to mains if you're not on hook-up).
- Check the van is reasonably level - absorption fridges struggle to cool properly on a slope.
- If it's on the right source and still not cooling, get the cooling unit checked before it's damaged further.
Likely causes
- Wrong power source selected for the current setup
- Van parked on a significant slope
- A failing cooling unit
- Blocked external flue restricting the fridge's ventilation
Rough UK cost
Diagnosis typically £40 - £90; a replacement cooling unit or fridge runs £500 - £1,200 fitted.
